Kyle was born and raised in Louisville, KY. He attended Butler Traditional High School and helped lead his team to state finals during his senior year. He recieved an athletic scholarship to Eastern Kentucky University where he played for one year. He then transferred to University of Louisville and was a part of two College World Series teams 2013 and 2014.
Kyle was drafted by the San Diego Padres in 2014 in the 36th round. He moved through the Padres minor league system quickly and was named Minor League Baseball Pitcher of the year in 2016. He made his major league debut in 2017 and earned a spot on the opening day roster in 2018.
